Villains Like You Too
Villains Like You Too
The Villains pride themselves on their roots, making sure live shows stay raw, spontaneous and loud. With the release of their debut album "Black Jackets"(2011), the Villains have pressed their souls to CD. Like the dirtiest of homeless vagrants dressed in the finest tuxedo, the band brings revelation and slight sophistication to an otherwise unpolished sound. Drawing on blues and early punk rock influences, Villains Like You can be mentioned in the same vain as The Stooges, MC5, The White Stripes and The Hives.

Started in 2011 as an International Arts Project, Travel Songs was originally created by American musician, Zachary Humenik, with the aim of creating high definition videos that captured the music of the world. Within that year, Humenik traveled to 4 different continents, using the indigenous genres and instruments of each location to produce Travel Songs.

... Continuing forward, Humenik moved to Tunisia, where the focus became recording an album in a time of revolution. With the ‘Arab Spring’ in will swing by this time, Humenik bought a flat close to downtown Tunis, and set up his studio. From these recording sessions came The ‘Matadors LP’ (named after a popular football club in Tunis). The album was written and recorded by Humenik, with the audio files sent via Internet to the US where former band mates, Sam Nobles and Tyler Holloway helped to produce the album. Matadors was released in 2012 – digital download only.

At the close of 2012, Humenik traveled to Los Angeles, California to meet up with long time friend and fellow musician, Zachary Thomas. Together in a studio in Echo Park, the two recorded and released the 3 song, ‘Smokey Bear EP’.

From Los Angeles, Travel Songs was taken to South East Asia where Humenik and fellow musician Samuel Nobles toured Thailand, Cambodia, Loas, and Vietnam. During their travels, the two created ‘Fever Dreams’, an EP recorded in various guesthouses and bungalows using instruments bought in local markets in South East Asia.

Finally returning home in 2013, Humenik decided to apply the idea behind Travel Songs to a full band format. Continuing with Nobles, and adding brother, Tyler Doherty, long time friend, Tyler Holloway, and local musician, George Murphy to the group – the core musicians for the Travel Songs project had been established.

Since that time, the Travel Songs Project has been a revolving door or talented American musicians performing music created abroad, as well as writing new music. Developing a strong fan base both at home and abroad, Travel Songs has played with Smokey Robinson and been invited to perform at The Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts. The first studio album is in the works, as well as further plans to expand and hit the trail again.
